Biblical Insight:
Imagine one day the elbow got angry and yelled at the fingers for being too dainty and gentle. Then the fingers got upset and yelled right back, telling the elbow to be less aggressive and blunt. This is what Paul has the Church imagine in 1 Corinthians 12. The truth is the elbow is meant for hard work - doing the pushing and shoving, when the fingers are meant for delicate jobs. Both are needed! Different parts of the body might not get along right away because they are meant for different purposes. However in the body of Christ we learn to love everyone and be our distinct selves so that Christ’s purpose is accomplished in our lives.
