There's a new robot on the block ... In this lesson, Dave and Boris explore diversity and how to enlarge our perspective and empathize with others, even when those robots look different from our robots.
Materials Required: pencil, paper, and scissors (colored pencils, markers, and craft items optional)
This lesson cross references the SEL Core Competency: 'Social-Awareness.' It helps children take others' perspectives. In the episode Dave teaches Boris to identify diverse social norms and how diversity is beautiful and natural. The lesson shows children to recognize strengths in others.
This lesson cross-references with B-SS 7. from the ASCA Mindset and Behavior Standards.
RR1 : Respectful Relationships - the importance of respecting others, even when they are very different from them (for example, physically, in character, personality or backgrounds), or make different choices or have different preferences or beliefs
RR2 : Respectful Relationships - practical steps they can take in a range of different contexts to improve or support respectful relationships.
Jesus chose 12 very different personalities to advance His Kingdom. Among the disciples were religious zealots, blue-collar fisherman, and high class tax collector types - a recipe for disaster. Ephesians 2:14 shows us how Jesus came to break down hatred between differing groups. Part of being a disciple of Jesus involves learning how to love others that look and behave differently than you.
