Biblical Insight:
In the Scriptures we find that God lives in our hearts. Psalms 51:16-17 tells us God doesn’t want a sacrifice of our best sheep and burnt goats but instead He wants our hearts fully given to Him like a broken sacrifice. This is why in the Psalms we see David expressing all the emotions of his heart. We see him talking about crying all night, then he’s hopeful, then he’s crying again, and then he’s rejoicing. David is experiencing all his emotions and then giving them to God like they are a sacrifice. Dave tells Boris its important to truly feel his emotions, but emotions shouldn’t be allowed to drive the car. This is why in many of the Psalms after David has expressed his heart he then, regardless of how he is feeling, puts his hope in a steadfast God.
